La Pagerie - Guest comments

The chateau in Chef Boutonne

“ We had an absolute wonderful stay at La Pagerie and this time made the most of it so, other than day trips to La Rochelle and St Jean D'Angeley, we just sat in the garden reading and relaxing with a few nice walks in and around the river and woods near the Lavoir. In all our years of travelling we have probably never gone back to the same place, especially so soon, yet there's something about La Pagerie that has captivated us.”

Adrian Wilson (Oxfordshire) September 2015

“ We had a brilliant time! We loved la pagerie, so well equipped, the garden was great as was peaches and pears??. We had couple trips out, La Rochelle and cognac tasting! Wedding went well of course brilliant weather helped. Also enjoyed just chilling out at la pagerie in garden! Just not long enough unfortunately!.”

Sandra Smith (Surrey) September 2015

“ We had a really good stay at La Pagerie and enjoyed exploring the area - there is so much more to see and I hope we can return. It is a lovely house and great garden and from the pictures you have obviously worked very hard over the years.”

Sue Furness (Surrey) August 2015

“ Thank you, we had a lovely time and couldn’t have asked for a more perfect week in terms of the weather. Are you aware that there are a pair of Little Owls nesting in the barn opposite the back of your house? We think they were feeding babies as there was a lot of activity and noises coming from there. Our friends who came with us are keen bird watchers and we learnt quite a lot from them. The night sky was something else, it was so clear and not only did we count on average 8-10 satellites orbiting the earth each night (according to Mr Google there are about 8,000 satellites up there) we were very fortunate to see 8 shooting stars over the week, but I expect you’re used to that.”

Carol Clarkson (Surrey) July 2015

Keith Jordan (Surrey) April 2013

“La Pagerie was perfect for our needs, we were able to use it as great base for touring and it was also very accommodating for those lazy days when we decided to stay local. Our children are still in awe at the size of the house and the garden, and the pool table was very popular.”

Allan Jones (Cheshire) August 2012

“We loved La Pagerie and wished we could have stayed longer! The garden was superb and the shade from the trees was particularly welcome last week when the temperatures were in the 90’s. James spotted a lot of wildlife including rabbits, red squirrel and an owl. In the house, the pool table was a great hit and we really liked the way you had converted it. The journey from the airport at La Rochelle was easy (75 mins) and over the two weeks we visited many of the towns and local attractions that you had mentioned. We particularly liked Coulon, La Rochelle and St Jean D’Angleli, and the market at Lezay and St Martin’s on Ile de Re.”

David Lawrence (Hampshire) July 2012

“Thanks we had a lovely relaxing time – which was exactly what we’d planned – not doing much but reading and eating good food – so the house was perfect! We sat in the courtyard on Friday evening catching the last of the sun thinking about doing the same time next year.”

Alison Robson (Gateshead) June 2012

“We had a great time at La Pagerie -the property has a way of making you feel at home very quickly and we enjoyed the space both outside and in. It's a great location for exploring a really lovely area of France.”

Matt McAteer (Belfast) August 2011

“We had a fantastic time and would have loved to have stayed another week. The property was great and had a lot of character with beams, flooring and fireplaces and yet you have put modern touches too. Bed linen/ towels were crisp fresh and everything else clean. Pool table went down well with everyone and games room had a good selection of quality jigsaws and games. Loved the patio and garden with plum trees abundant with ripe fruit every day. We had a fruit crumble first night and a BBQ. We will be back again, as we have still a lot we would like to see. And we would recommend the property to anyone. Well done on the renovation, it must have been a lot of work looking at the photos. Hope to be there next year.”

James Cotter (East Sussex) August 2011

“La Pagerie is an absolute credit to both yourself and Karen to restore it to even better than before! It was a fantastic base for day tripping around a beautiful part of France. It was exactly as we hoped and planned it would be - really perfect for us with 4 young children - lots of space to play in safely. Thanks to Deborah for the cake and juice on arrival - lovely touch. Thanks again to both you and Karen - you have a retreat to be very proud of in a lovely part of France - envious!!”

Dave O’Regan (Waterford) July 2011

“We had a lovely week, the house is totally amazing, could not believe how big it was and how much work you had done to it. You must be so proud of how nice it is. We all agreed that we will definitely be going back to La Pagerie and will most definitely be recommending it to family and friends. Beautiful house in a beautiful location.”

Clair Coates (Surrey) June 2011

“Extremely good value for the money. The bedrooms were large and with 3 couples, each one being en-suite was a great bonus. Lovely rooms downstairs - the pool table was a great hit with all. Welcome was excellent, and very supportive of us after getting lost, not your fault, we always do! TV was great. Lovely grounds.”

“I had a fabulous time at La Pagerie thanks. 3 separate holidays with different groups of people. The farmhouse was great. The accommodation was excellent. Loads of lovely space, lots of lovely weather and total peace and tranquility. There's so much to see and do around the Poitou Charentes but it was also lovely to just eat, drink and enjoy being with friends and family. Thank you so much for making that possible.”

Helen Walker (Shropshire) August 2010

“We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay at La Pagerie - very spacious and comfortable. The bedrooms with their en suite bathroom/showers were good and, most importantly, the beds were very comfortable. The walks around the local area were excellent, helped by info from Deborah. So, in precis, if anyone were to ask if I could recommend La Pagerie my answer would be an absolute yes.”

Neil Martin (Cambridgeshire) June 2010

“We had a great week at La Pagerie, with the unexpected bonus of perfect weather every day. The accommodation was beyond our expectations - which is unusual when it comes to holiday lets. It's definitely on our list of places to return to (which is a very short list indeed!).”

“We had a great stay at La Pagerie and the weather was fantastic. We love what you have done to the place. Although remote, the surrounding area is great with Niort, La Rochelle and Ile de Re among our favourite places to visit. The house is spacious, the garden great, and the games room a real hit with the kids (especially the pool table)! Chris looked after us well making sure basics were available when we arrived late, dropping off a walking map to the area and suggesting other activities.”

Hayward family (Gloucestershire) July 2009

“We found La Pagerie to be well equipped and excellent value for money. We think you are very lucky to have such a nice property in France. The location of La Pagerie is excellent and was an ideal holiday home for us, with plenty of space both inside and out, and importantly a very safe and secure garden for our three year old grandson.”

Patric Parker (Hampshire) June 2009

“The bed was extremely comfortable in fact the most comfortable we have ever slept in whilst away. Everything about the house is beautiful, very spacious, very homely and very fresh and airy, we would definitely stay there again. We liked the fact the house had so much character and we had a look at the old bread oven, the kids thought it was great. The kids loved the garden and we had a few games of badminton, the kids also got the paddling pool out and played a lot on the tyre swing. The area that La Pagerie is in is beautiful and there is so much to do around there.”

“The beds were comfortable, the rooms a good size and all the bathrooms excellent, it was light and airy downstairs, had a decent sized TV, and a secure garden for the dogs…. which all counted towards it being a ‘home from home’ for the month. We would like to emphasise how well the house suited us and also we forgot to mention how Chris and Debs ‘do you proud’ as your representatives out there! They manage to get the balance just right.”

It was real joy to stay there, everything we needed was supplied and we especially appreciated the comfortable beds after a busy day out visiting. We only wish we had had more time to see more of the area. That will have to wait until our next visit”
